PROGRAM NOTES:Rōnin were masterless Japanese Samurai during the feudal period from 1185 to 1868. A Samurai could become masterless, if his master died, was removed from office by the Shogunate, or fell out of favor with his master and was cast out. In Japanese culture, the Rōnin were considered dishonorable and were the target of derision and satire. But they always lived in harmony with themselves and nature and loved the traditional Japanese festivals!
Samurai was commissioned by Zurich Cantonal Music Association and premiered in June 2024 at the 31st Zurich Cantonal Musicfestival in Switzerland.
